Autumn Scavenger Hunt

This week I have been babysitting our little neighbor girl, D. We just love her, she is like my girls' little sister. Anytime she is coming over, we plan fun things to do with her.
This time, we had an idea I found in Family Fun magazine.
You take an egg carton, and paint each nesting spot inside a different color. Being the lazy mom I am, (and I really don't like paint all that much!) I had the girls take magic markers and go to town.
When they had them all "painted" they set out to find objects outside that would match the color in each individual place in the carton. They had a BLAST!
They found such neat things! And it was such an easy activity to do. I love activities where the set up is minimal and it has maximum play value!
They went all over the yard, carefully making choices about each item they chose to match the colors inside the carton.
The girls were all excited to show me their finds. "Look Mom!"
They found leaves, mushrooms, flowers of all sorts, berries and more. If you want an easy activity that will get your kids outside, keep them excited and active for hours, and leave them with a sense of PRIDE and accomplishment, I recommend this one!

That's a great idea! I think I'll try that when we take our annual 'fall leaves' trip up the canyon. Thanks for posting it- it's obvious the girls had fun.

Hi there!

My name is Denise and I just found you from Lorri's blog! I have recently started taking riding lessons, and LOVE it! I saw your slide show of the kids on horseback and you all look terrific! I am still trying to master posting the trot and can't wait to canter, one day!

Just wanted to stop by, and say, "Hello!" and will look forward to reading your blog again!

SMILES!!!

I did this with the kiddos yesterday (in the pouring rain!) and they had a blast! Surprisingly, most of the color matches they found were mushrooms. This has certainly been a good year for them, with all the rain. I can hardly believe my eyes right now- at this very moment it is SUNNY outside!?!
